THE BYRON BEACH CAFE
BYRON BEACH CAFÉ
A sunny day in paradise and a blissful lunch sitting basking in the sunshine is all you can ask for in this world.
We had a wonderful lunch at the Byron Beach Café. Despite the fact that it was blowing a gale, the outdoor dining area was well protected from the wind and the sun was perfect, the wine was chilled and we ate like royalty.
The duck salad was a generous serving of deep fried kipfler potatoes, shredded duck, rocket and feta ($18). Not a skerrick remained. The pork belly was less generous in size but made up for that in taste – the pear and quince puree was an inspired choice to put with it ($22). And yes the Salt and Pepper calamari was tender and tasty ($17) and also very generous in size.
Of note is that in a town of great coffee – the Byron Beach Café served what I think could well take out the crown! The long black, double shot decaf skinny latte (I kid you not) and cappuccino had us all oooohing and aaaaahing. I am reliably informed that the coffee is supplied by the Byron Bay coffee company – though the Barista must work some alchemists magic as it never tastes this good when I make it.
Did I mention the Desserts? Did I mention the chocolate hazelnut pudding or the orange and almond cake that made me forget my vow (for this week) of total dessert abstinence? Hmm all really good.
The surroundings of course were glorious, sitting looking out at beautiful Byron Bay, blue sky, green sea. It was just after the festival and the place was littered with glitterati and cilorati! Lots to look at.
All up for 3 people, plus 1 glass of wine, 3 coffees, desserts, a huge delicious juice the cost was $111. Oh and did I mention the staff. Gorgeous girls in tight faded denim, long locks, great smiles and patrolled the restaurant like white pointers looking for the lift of a eyebrow, wave of the hand or an empty plate.
I rate it a 3.5 Yummmm experience!!! Clarks Beach, Lawson Street, Byron Bay. Ph. 0266858400 www.byronbeachcafe.com.au

I have to agree with this review. We were blown away by this place and found ourselves back there for Breakfast, lunches, take away fish and chips and late afternoon cocktails. It’s just magic and the staff are fantastic.
We were only sorry we weren’t in Byron over Summer when they do dinner as local friends say it is the best place in town and I don’t doubt it.
