TRADITIONAL THAI – Fletcher Street, Byron Bay.
TRADITIONAL THAI BAYSIDE DINING
SHOP 5, 2 FLETCHER ST., BYRON BAY (NEAR THE ORIENT EXPRESS).
A big group of us lobbed unexpectedly here and we were quickly and well accommodated. It was a birthday celebration – so we had bought Moet for the birthday girl. At the lift of an eyebrow it was produced at just the right moment (and temperature) en cue, and served with applomb perfectly timed for the toast. Well done Maitre D.
Being rather jolly and hungry, when the Maitre D said “do you want me to order for you” – we said ‘yes please’ and threw ourselves into his capable hands. Out came a feast of starters and mains at good intervals so that we had plenty of time to rest between courses (which we needed). Frankly – it was all bloody delicious! There was a lot of oohing and aaaahing going on, and many a “try this one – its yum!”.
As always with any group there was a big range of people who can’t eat some particular dish (pork, gluten, vegetarian etc etc). And I am pleased to say that we were all accommodated – lots of things for all of us, some special things for some of us, and happy tummys afterwards. The duck was delicious by the way – I always think you can judge a restaurant by its duck!
Dessert which is never the strong point for Thai restaurants was a good surprise. Once again we got a desssert platter which was just lip smacking good (in fact there was a bit of bun fight to fend off one greedy little piggy who tried to hog the choc torte, black rice pudding and tart all for himself – you know who you are Max!) However after crossing spoons in a smart parry and sharp thrust we all got to sample the goodies.
Value for money too. We didn’t pay a fortune and all came away with big smiles having had a happy birthday experience. Wouldn’t hesitate to go there again.
3.5 yumms for taste! 4 yumms for service!
Well done Traditional Thai.

Ate there last night, had the banquet (or should I say feast like your recommended) and ate like kings – pork belly dish was as you say really ‘yum’. With 2 bottles of veyr nice wine, several bottles of pelegrino and a tip it was just over $50 a head. Really good! Thanks for the recommendation.

Good food. However half of the table had finished there mains before the other half of the table. (45 mins) later. The owner/manager wasn’t helpful and was clearly out of control. We won’t be back. Good luck.

Did anyone else pay $16 for corkage? for one bottle of wine, slighty ridiculous? given that we had to open it and pour it ourselves.
