If you would like to try something off the well beaten Byron Bay track, then consider the delightfully rustic Che Bon restaurant located in the old Church (Presbyterian), at Tintenbar.

We went for the Mussels night and had a lovely and very authentic Frency experience. Our hostess Pasquale is very courteous, and did everything to make our experience a pleasant one. The restaurant is more or less part of their house, so expect to see their small children romping around as you eat. If it’s winter sit close to the fire if you can, but don’t worry lap rugs are also provided (very authentic).

Wednesday is a set menu of a big bowl of fresh New Zealand mussels in either a cream or tomato sauce. If you don’t eat Mussels you can ring ahead and order something else. They are served with a large bowl of pomme frites and fresh bread and butter. Followed by a superb crème brulee.

They open Wednesday to Saturday for dinner, Sunday for lunch.

It is BYO as well – which makes it a very affordable night out. 3 Yumms! you can book on 026687221.
