MERMAIDS CAFE, Ballina Beach Village.

Mermaids Cafe is a little gem. Take granny for a Sunday arvo drive and shout her lunch at the Mermaids Cafe located at the Ballina Beach Village, they have a really good take away menu with lots of fresh fish and chip type things. But if you ring ahead and make a booking they will do you a special group meal. We had a fabulous seafood platter in the centre of the table with big salad and chips and really delicious tartare sauce. They also do pub style meals (without the pub bit – byo)  which are really, really cheap and totally tasty. The chef known as Pirate Jess is a real character and a damn fine chef! this is perhaps the most honest and well priced food we have had. We fed 12 people for about $98 with really good coffees and ice creams to follow! it was a family celebration, and we had been contemplating some high priced restaurants which would have worked out to be around the $500 mark for the same food. So we think this was good value for money. They had a wonderful Irish Pub Band playing that just made it so much fun.

On Friday and Saturday nights they have African drumming and fire dancer shows after the meal. So entertainment is laid on. Here are the hours:-

FRIDAY

6-8pm Pub style meals, and full take away menu – African drumming 8-9pm.

SATURDAY

LUNCH 12-2pm – Take away menu and if you book in advance pub style meals.

DINNER 6-8pm Pub style meals, and full take away menu -Fire Dancers show.

SUNDAY

LUNCH 12-2pm – Take away menu and if you book in advance pub style meals and Irish Pub Band

KIDS PARTIES if you want to show your kids a really good time on their birthday – then book a PIRATES PARTY at the Ballina Beach Village. The Village puts on a great time for kids, and also they can do activities like flying trapeze and circus skills for a package price, with food and drinks. We saw a party and were pea green with how much fun the kids were having. I want to be a pirate when I grow up!!!

Thanks for the tip regarding Mermaids – we had a lovely Sunday lunch. The chef did a big seafood platter with a huge salad. We really enjoyed it and very reasonably priced.
